Most of the six health maintenance organization (HMO) insurers and 11 indemnity insurers doing business in Connecticut rate high on customer satisfaction, according to the 19th annual 2016 Consumer Report Card on Health Plans in Connecticut.
Five of six health maintenance organization (HMO) insurers and eight of 11 indemnity insurers rate high on the scale of customer satisfaction in a survey that is part of a the report card posted online by the Connecticut Insurance Department.
Combined, the 17 companies enroll a total of more than 2.4 million members, said Insurance Commissioner Katharine L. Wade. Wade released the lengthy report Monday to provide consumers with information on nearly 20 health insurers that are marketing plans for 2017.
The HMOs that scored between 9 and 10, at the top of the range, include Aetna Health, Anthem, Cigna, ConnectiCare and Oxford. Harvard Pilgrim earned a 7-8 ranking, on a scale of zero to 10, the scorecard shows.
Eight indemnity insurers, on the other hand, uniformly earned marks in the 9-10 range. These include Aetna Life, Anthem, Cigna H & L, ConnectiCare, CT General, HPHC, Oxford Health and United. Golden Rule and United consumers did not participate in the survey, the report states. Totals for ConnectiCare Benefits Inc., also in the 9-10 range, do not equal 100 percent because of data provided by the company, the report notes.
With open enrollment season coming up this November, the report card has been designed as a “useful tool” for individuals and employers researching their coverage options for 2017, particularly for the thousands who can begin shopping Nov. 1 for health insurance through Access Health CT, the state’s exchange, Wade said.
Mental health information also has been expanded in this report, she said.
The Insurance Department worked with the Connecticut Economic Resource Center to help provide a statistical analysis and redesign of the report, which now includes three years of comparative data to reflect changes in insurance provisions due to the implementation of the federal Affordable Care Act.
