Connecticut’s institutes of higher learning were the big winners this year at Associated General Contractors of Connecticut’s seventh annual industry recognition awards dinner recently.
Keith Epstein, assistant vice chancellor for planning and technical services for the Connecticut State University System, was named Public Owner of the Year; and David Frassinelli, vice president for facilities at Fairfield University, was named Private Owner of the Year.
The AGC awards are meant to honor Connecticut professionals in the construction industry who have excelled in their careers. The awards ceremony was held Oct. 13 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.
The seven other winners were Designer of the Year, Clarence Welti, geotechnical engineer with Clarence Welti Associates, Inc. of Glastonbury; General Contractor/Construction Manager of the Year, Damien David, president of Newfield Construction; Subcontractor of the Year, Robert Berkmoes, executive vice president of James T. Kay Co. of Meriden; Supplier/Service Provider of the Year, Michael Donnelly, partner at Hartford law firm Murtha Cullina, LLP; Construction Supervisor of the Year, Martin Tubbs, general superintendent of Manaford Brothers, Inc. of Plainville; Educator of the Year, Howard Epstein, department of civil and environmental engineers at the University of Connecticut; and Construction Safety Professional of the Year, Walter B. Tucker, director of safety at Petra Construction in North Haven.
