SBA drought aid for CT’s Fairfield, Litchfield counties

Seems odd to announce amid an approaching hurricane, but the U.S. Small Business Administration has aid available to Fairfield and Litcfhield county businesses and nonprofits scorched in last summer’s drought.

SBA said Monday its aid is tied to the federal Agriculture Department’s declaration of both counties and several continguous New York counties as disaster areas due to the drought and excessive heat that began June 1.

Loans of up to $2 million at 3 percent to 4 percent for up to 30 years are available to qualified commercial and nonprofit applicants to cover such things as debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills.

The deadline is June 24, 2013.
