Denise Stranko, an attorney and environmental consultant, has joined the New Haven-based organization Save the Sound as its vice president of programs.
Stranko, of Glastonbury, has more than 20 years of experience in legislative action and policy.
She replaces Leah Lopez Schmalz, who became the organization’s president in October.
In her new position, Stranko will direct and implement the organization’s strategic plan and serve as a primary voice for the Long Island Sound and all the communities in its watershed.
She will connect Save the Sound with new supporters, build networks, partner with the philanthropy team and serve as a member of the executive team.
Stranko recently served as the federal executive director at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, where she successfully lobbied for funding. During her career, she also has served as counsel in the Department of the Interior’s Office of Inspector General.
