Workers looking for a jump-start on their holiday gift list may not be able to bag bargains on the job, a survey shows.
The majority (60 percent) of chief information officers (CIOs) interviewed by job-placement adviser Robert Half Technology said their companies block access to online shopping sites — up from 48 percent surveyed last year.
Another 23 percent said they allow access but monitor activity for excessive use, and 13 percent said they allow unrestricted access.
The CIOs whose firms allow online shopping said they expect employees to spend four hours per week, on average, surfing for deals this holiday season.
