Saturday’s snowstorm put a dent in donations for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign in Connecticut and Pawtucket, R.I., the nonprofit announced.
With a goal of raising $2 million, the Salvation Army has raised less than $1.1 million so far, leaving more than $900,000 to be raised by Christmas Eve this Saturday.
Donations are down 16 percent over this time last year. The Saturday before Christmas is typically one of the biggest donation days.
Donations are particularly low in Ansonia, Bridgeport, Danbury, Greater Hartford, New Britain, Norwalk, Norwich and Torrington in Connecticut and Pawtucket.
Kettle income supports a variety of programs and services not only during the holidays, but all year including food pantries, shelters, emergency assistance, summer camp programs, school readiness, after school programs, as well as holiday assistance taking place in communities across both states. Funds raised locally stay local.
