Sales, income up slightly at Stanley Works

Sales rose slightly for New Britain-based Stanley Works to $1.09 billion in the first quarter of 2008 from $1.06 billion at the same time last year.

The worldwide supplier of tools and security products also recorded an increase in Q1 net earnings to $68 million from $67.6 million in Q1 2007.

“Despite continued concentration of several key U.S. markets, we were able to deliver earnings improvement and solid cash flow results due to strength in security, industrial Europe and engineered solutions,” John F. Lundgren, chairman and CEO of SW, said in a statement. “We continue to focus on portfolio diversification and profitable growth initiatives to successfully achieve our short-term and long-term financial objectives.”
