Japanese restaurant Sakura Garden will officially debut later Thursday in the Bishops Corner Shopping Center in West Hartford.
Sakura owner Christine Liu will join West Hartford Mayor Scott Slifka, representatives for the center’s landlord and other dignitaries at 5 p.m. in cutting the ribbon on the 8,513-square-foot restaurant that formerly housed Romano’s Macaroni Grill.
Sakura has three other restaurants in Glastonbury, at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor, and in Hamden.
The reopening of restaurant space in Bishops Corner is part of an ongoing revitalization of the retail-office complex that dates to the 1970s.
South Carolina landlord Edens & Avant previously disclosed an estimated $10 million in upgrades for the center at the southwest corner of North Main Street and Albany Avenue/Route 44.
By Jan. 1, work will be completed on improvements to the anchor professional office building, including a remodeled lobby and entryway features, fresh paint, carpet, lighting and signing, said Edens & Avant spokesman Robbie Robertson. Â
