Sacred Heart patrols switch to hybrids

Sacred Heart University is relying on fuel-efficient hybrids to patrol its Fairfield campus.

The university replaced six gasoline Ford Explorers, which required multiple weekly fill-ups, with hybrid Ford Fusions and Escapes that only require one fill up every two weeks.

The school said the switch will save the school an estimated $20,000 and $30,000 a year.

“We do a lot of short routes and stop-and-go details, and when we do those, the electricity kicks in,” said Sacred Heart Officer Benjamin Benson. “And the cars are easy to drive around campus and the surrounding neighborhoods and are easy to park.”
