Sacred Heart names new dean for nursing 

Sacred Heart University in Fairfield has appointed a new dean for the Dr. Susan L. Davis, R.N., & Richard J. Henley College of Nursing.

Karen Daley was picked following a nationwide search. Daley has a background as a registered nurse, educator, editor and project director. Prior to joining Sacred Heart, she spent 10 years as dean of the College of Health Professions at Davenport University in Michigan.

Daley said she looks forward to sharing her expertise in nursing and education at Sacred Heart.

“After a challenging year navigating a pandemic, I am so proud of the role nurses have played in saving lives, educating the public and ensuring the health and safety of all,” Daley said. 

Daley, who has family in Connecticut, said her work in academics has focused on ensuring excellence in nursing. Daley also is the parent of a Sacred Heart graduate.

New area market president for TD Bank 

TD Bank recently named Monté Foster as its new southern New England retail market president. 

In this role, Foster will lead its retail banking team of nearly 1,000 employees and 95 stores in Connecticut, parts of Massachusetts and upstate New York.

Foster will also be responsible for designing and executing market strategy to improve the customer and employee experience across the region and promoting bank-wide collaboration.

Steve Webb, the bank’s regional president for southern New England, said Foster’s retail experience and knowledge of the community make him a great fit.

Foster has been involved in the bank’s diversity and inclusion efforts and is one of the co-leads of Southern New England’s Better Banking for Black Boston program. It provides financial education to minority-owned small businesses and aims to connect the bank with minority customers, prospects and community organizations in Boston.

Quinnipiac U. medical student elected to leadership post

Sotonye Douglas of North Haven, a third-year student at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, has been elected to a two-year term as Region VII  director of the Student National Medical Association.

The organization focuses on the needs and concerns of medical students of color. Founded in 1964, the association includes more than 7,000 medical students, pre-medical students and physicians. It works to increase the number of African-American, Latino and other students of color entering and completing medical school.

In this role, Douglas will represent students from six states that have 11 medical schools and 20 undergraduate colleges and universities.

“As director, I hope to not only lead the region, but continue the valuable programming we offer and expand outreach to pre-med students and younger students who are interested in careers in medicine,” Douglas said.
