Sabrin Values Service To The Community That ‘Saved’ His Life

Max Sabrin was living and working in downtown Manhattan when the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001 occurred. He watched from the rooftop of his office at Broadway and 21st Street as the twin towers collapsed and more than 3,000 people perished. “A piece of my heart was ripped out. Time heals, but I will never forget as long as I live,” he said.

Sabrin would head up Interstate 95 north to his vacation home in Old Saybrook to ease his mental and physical discomfort from the effects of Ground Zero. “Old Saybrook saved my life,” said Sabrin, who would eventually make the coastal town his full-time home, where he lives with his wife of 29 years. “It doesn’t get any better than Old Saybrook,” he added.

He also relocated his career, too. Sabrin has been appointed business development manager of staffing and recruitment for Resource Group Staffing & Consulting in West Hartford, responsible for staffing solutions for clients throughout the northeast as well as selected nationwide assignments. Sabrin, who has more than 30 years of experience in the executive search, recruitment, marketing and public relations fields, had served as managing partner and senior executive recruiter for the AMESGroup, a New York City-based executive search and placement firm.

Giving back to his new hometown has been a priority in Sabrin’s life. Shortly after moving to Old Saybrook, he became a member of the Old Saybrook Volunteer Fire Department at 51 (he is now 56). Skills he had developed promoting events at Manhattan hot spots like Studio 54 and Limelight were put to use helping the department raise funds. He proudly points to almost tripling attendance at the department’s annual hay ride as an achievement he is proud of. “I’m a go-go guy. If there’s a passion, I can sell it,” he said.

Sabrin said he also has a passion for helping companies and workers as a recruiter. “I believe in getting a company the best talent and not taking a person and dumping them into a job.

The bottom line is I can sleep at night. I have a high ethical standard.” Sabrin has recruited for different types of careers. “Recruiting is recruiting is recruiting, regardless of the position,” he said.
