The Connecticut-based Ryan Martin Foundation plans to expand its youth wheelchair basketball program to Hartford this fall, offering weekly training and competition opportunities for young athletes with physical disabilities.
The Hartford program will take place at the Wilson-Grey YMCA and provide skill development, competitive play and mentorship for athletes of all experience levels, from beginners to experienced players, according to the foundation. Participants will work with trained coaches and adaptive sports professionals.
The expansion builds on the foundation’s existing adaptive sports programming in Connecticut and is intended to increase access for youth and families in the Hartford area. Foundation officials said the program also aims to promote physical activity, social inclusion and leadership development.
The foundation said it will hold clinics and informational sessions this summer ahead of the fall season. Registration details will be announced in the coming weeks.
