Rumored mayoral candidate announces event in Hartford

Hartford Democrat Arunan Arulampalam, a rumored candidate for mayor, will make a “special announcement” during a press conference Thursday.

Arulampalam, CEO of Hartford Lank Bank and former deputy commissioner of the state Department of Consumer Protection, announced this week he’ll make a “special announcement about the future of Hartford” at 5:30 p.m. this Thursday at Parkville Market, 1400 Park St.

Should Arulampalam announce his candidacy for mayor of Hartford, he’ll be the third to do so since Mayor Luke Bronin announced he wouldn’t be running for reelection in 2023.

Former state Sen. Eric Coleman, who is also a retired Superior Court judge, threw his hat in the race in late November.

Last month, Hartford City Council member Nick Lebron also announced his candidacy.

Arulampalam is also a former candidate for state treasurer, running for that post in 2018.
