About 30% of the work on RTX’s $369.9 million F-35 engine contract modification will take place in Connecticut, led by East Hartford.
RTX Corp., parent company to East Hartford-based Pratt & Whitney, has been awarded a $369.9 million contract modification to support production of F-35 fighter jet engines, the U.S. Department of Defense announced on Thursday.
The modification funds advance purchases of materials and components for a future batch of F-35 engines and supports the delivery schedule for 138 engines already on order for the U.S. Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy, as well as international partners and foreign military sales customers.
About 30% of the work will occur in Connecticut, led by East Hartford, which accounts for about 17% of the effort. Additional work is slated for Middletown, Cromwell, Manchester and Cheshire. The project also includes work in multiple other states and is expected to be completed by May 2031.
Funding includes a mix of fiscal 2025 and 2026 aircraft procurement dollars, along with contributions from international program partners and foreign military sales. The contract was not competitively awarded.
