Defense contractor RTX Corp. has submitted a zoning application to create a more secure, self-enclosed campus at its facility located at 10 Farm Springs Road in Farmington.
The site plan modification calls for significant security enhancements, including a new guard house, gated entrance and perimeter fencing around the three-story office building.
The proposed improvements would transform the current open office complex into a controlled-access facility.
Plans include installing a 6-foot ornamental picket fence along the entire property perimeter, including the roadway frontage along Farm Springs Road. A new guard house and gate system would control vehicle access, requiring drivers to follow a new traffic pattern when entering and exiting the facility.
The security upgrades would also affect pedestrian access, with the internal campus sidewalk being reconfigured into a self-contained loop. Pedestrian gates would be installed at connection points to the adjacent 8 Farm Springs Road property and the public sidewalk along Farm Springs Road.

To accommodate the new guard house and revised traffic circulation, RTX would need to reconfigure the existing parking lot. The changes would result in a net loss of 14 parking spaces, with 26 spaces removed and only 12 reconstructed in the immediate area. An additional 14 spaces are planned as “deferred parking” along the western and southwestern property boundaries.
The project requires special approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The property at 10 Farm Springs Road housed the headquarters of United Technologies Corp. until April 2020, when UTC merged with the Raytheon Co. to form Raytheon Technologies, later renamed RTX Corp.
RTX’s request is on the agenda for the Town Plan and Zoning Commission’s meeting at 7 Monday, but the town has requested more information from the applicant before a vote can occur.
