Roofing company leases industrial building in Bloomfield

A national roofing company with an office in East Hartford has leased a building in Bloomfield where it plans to fabricate pre-manufactured roof panels, according to a zoning application.

Tecta America New England LLC is seeking a special permit and site plan approval for a change in use of the Bloomfield building at 420 Woodland Ave.

Tecta’s Connecticut office is currently located at 105 Cherry St. in East Hartford, according to its website.

Tecta plans to use the 21,156-square-foot Bloomfield facility to fabricate sheet metal roof edging. It would install a manual brake machine used to bend sheet metal, according to the application.

The facility would have five office workers and 18 operations personnel, the application states. The operations personnel primarily drive company vehicles, but also perform activities in the building and load and unload vehicles before leaving for job sites.

According to the application, Tecta would reduce the parking lot from 20 to 13 spaces, which it says is “more than adequate” for the proposed operation.

Tecta has received wetlands approval to store sheet styrofoam in the parking lot, with the condition that it check the wetlands every six months for errant material.

The Planning and Zoning Commission is set to open a hearing on Tecta’s application at its meeting Thursday night.
