Rocky’s Ace Hardware announced that it has acquired the former Smithland Pet and Garden Center site in Manchester for just over $2 million and will open its third Connecticut store there.
It will be the Springfield, Massachusetts-based, family-owned hardware dealer’s 51st location.
Rocky’s has existing stores in Vernon and Stamford.
FRP Holdings Manchester LLC, an affiliate of Rocky’s, acquired the property from Trio Fund CT I CT Portfolio LLC for $2.05 million, according to a land record dated Sept. 3.
The acquisition follows Smithland’s decision to close all 13 of its locations in Connecticut and Massachusetts earlier this year.
The new store, located at 33 Adams St., will sell a range of Ace Hardware and name-brand product lines, including paint, lawn and garden supplies, outdoor-living products, and tools.
A large garden center, spanning about 10,000 square feet, will offer a variety of live goods.
