Rocky Hill’s ATG Rehab expands westward

ATG Rehab, a Rocky Hill provider of wheelchairs and other mobility gear to the elderly and disabled, has added four offices in the West and Southwest to its U.S. network.

The new offices are in Oklahoma City, Okla., and Chattanooga, Tenn., and in Lynnwood and Tacoma, Wash., near where ATG had existing offices, officials said. The openings raises to more than 26 the number of offices ATG operates in 19 states.

Cody Verrett, vice president of sales and marketing, said the offices are staffed with assistive technology professionals (ATPs), who are trained and certified in matching users to the specific type of powered or manual wheelchairs, specialized seating, portable ramps or other equipment suited to their needs.

The federal government requires an ATP evaluation before it will fund the purchase of equipment, typically through Medicare, Verrett said.

The $38 billion-a-year market for mobility and assistive technology of all types – including those to enhance vision and hearing — is projected to reach $50 billion by 2013, according to BCC Research in Wellesley, Mass.

Formed in 1999 and privately held, ATG is one of the largest providers in the market, Verrett said.
