Rockville to close Enfield branch

Rockville Bank said it has filed a notice with its state regulator seeking approval to close one of its three Enfield branches in November.

The Vernon-based bank plans to close its branch at 660 Enfield St., which opened in 2007, while branches at 231 Hazard Ave. and in the Big Y Supermarket on Palomba Drive will remain open. If the closure is approved, the bank will have 22 branches.

Customers will be receiving letters in the mail about the closing and the bank said its employees from the Enfield Street branch will be relocated.

William H.W. Crawford IV, president and CEO, said in a statement that the branch slated to be closed had lower transaction volumes and lower market share than the other Enfield branches.

“We are confident this decision will have very little or no impact on our loyal Enfield Street customers because they will continue to benefit from a first-class banking experience at two other Rockville Bank branches just minutes away in Enfield,” Crawford said.

As of June 30, 2012, Rockville had 16 percent market share in Enfield with $120.9 million in local deposits, according to federal data. As of March, the bank had total assets of $2.06 billion.
