Rockville Bank taps Patel as tech czar

This is an updated version of an earlier post.

Glastonbury lender Rockville Bank has tapped another Wells Fargo alum, and spouse of another executive hire two months ago, as its technology officer.

Sam Patel, former chief information officer for a Greenville, S.C., startup bank, will be a senior vice president and report to Rockville’s CEO William H. W. Crawford IV, who also spent time at Wells Fargo, Rockville Bank said Tuesday.

Patel arrives just as Rockville and West Springfield’s United Bank tie up loose ends toward their $369 million merger set for summer completion.

Patel was around for Wells Fargo’s merger with former Wachovia Bank, as Wells’ senior technology officer. Previously, he had been senior vice president in Wachovia’s card and payment solutions group at Wachovia and later its division information officer for shared services for general bank lending technology.

In December, Rockville hired Donna Patel, also a former Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank officer, as its first ever virtual banking officer. Donna Patel is Sam Patel’s wife.
