Rock-n-roll memorabilia dealer gets 10 months in prison

A Glastonbury man trying to avoid federal currency transaction laws was sentenced to 10 months in prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s office for Connecticut said David E. Raymond, 75, of Glastonbury bought rock-n-roll memorabilia for a doctor who owned a medical practice. Raymond conspired with the office manager to be paid in checks below $10,000, which automatically triggers currency transaction reports at banks.

Between August 2009 and May 2012, Raymond received 20 checks totaling $146,500 from the medical practice’s business bank accounts. He cashed the checks on different days and at different banks so that the banks would not file the currency reports disclosing his receipt of cash.

The federal investigation also revealed that Raymond has not filed a tax return since at least 1986. He has agreed to forfeit $10,000 related to his structuring activity.
