RI Senate votes to stop GI foreclosures

Rhode Island lawmakers want to protect members of the military from property foreclosures while they are serving their country, The Associated Press reports.

The Senate passed legislation Wednesday that would prohibit foreclosures if the property owner is currently on active duty. The foreclosure could proceed six months after a service member has returned home.

Sen. Walter Felag, a Warren Democrat, sponsored the bill and says members of the armed forces shouldn’t have to deal with foreclosure proceedings while serving their country.

The bill now heads to the House for consideration.
