Restaurant in downtown Hartford’s Front Street district closes after less than a year

A tapas restaurant and bar that opened to much fanfare in August 2024 in downtown Hartford’s Front Street entertainment district is set to permanently close June 1.

The Triple Three, known for its Peruvian fare and live music, is located at 89 Arch St. in the former Blind Pig Pizza Co. building, which is near UConn’s Hartford campus.

The original owner, Jeff Valdiviezo, told the Hartford Business Journal last year that he spent about $90,000 fitting out the space.

In March, the Hartford Business Journal reported that The Triple Three was listed for sale, but remained open. Valdiviezo’s parents had taken over the restaurant with help from his younger brother.

The business, priced at $185,000, was marketed as a “turnkey business opportunity in a primate location.”

The Capital Regional Development Authority owns 89 Arch St., and the building itself is not for sale. CRDA bought the property for $650,000 in 2023.

The Triple Three is planning a goodbye “Latin Night” celebration on Saturday, May 31, with drink specials and music by DJ Styles.

A spokesperson for the restaurant did not immediately return a message seeking comment Thursday.

The Triple Three posted the following message on Facebook last week:

“After months of memories, laughter, hard work, and heart — we’re saying goodbye. June 1st will be the final day of The Triple Three. This place was more than a restaurant. It was home. It was family. It was a dream built with love and lived out loud. Thank you to every person who stepped through our doors, danced at our events, sat at our bar, supported our team, and made this journey unforgettable.”

The Front Street entertainment district, a key area of Hartford’s downtown revitalization, started to blossom before the COVID-19 pandemic, but has struggled to regain its footing.

The Triple Three’s building adjoins Arch Street Tavern, a favorite haunt of politicians since it opened in 1978, which is also for sale. Arch Street Tavern’s business and property at 83-85 Arch St. are listed for $1.1 million.
