ReSET honors 12 startups with assistance, cash

Hartford incubator reSET, the Social Enterprise Trust, has announced the winners of its 2015 Impact Challenge, who will receive professional service and split at least $75,000 in seed capital.

The 12 honorees were picked out of a pool of more than 100, which is double the applicants for the 2014 Impact Challenge and a 700 percent increase since the program started in 2011.

This is the first year the competition has been open to all of New England. Nine of the 12 companies were from Connecticut, including Hartford Prints! and Fresh Farm Aquaponics.

On Oct. 29, reSET will hold a ceremony to honor the 12 companies as well as pick the overall winners who will receive the most assistance. A people’s choice startup also will be honored out of the 12.

The startups will receive special assistance from reSET’s professionals for services like legal and accounting. They also will split the pool of money that has been given to reSET for the winners, which was at $75,000 on Thursday, said reSET spokeswoman Emily Walsh.
