Legislative Republicans say they’ve drafted an ethics reform bill that definitively allows a judge to revoke some or all of a corrupt politician’s pension.
They plan to offer their bill as an amendment in the coming days. It also makes it a crime for someone to witness a public servant being bribed and not report it.
A deal between Senate Democrats and Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell on an ethics reform bill suddenly fell apart last week after GOP lawmakers and House Democrats raised concerns. In particular, Republicans claimed the bill was weak on the pension revocation issue.
Democrats disagreed, arguing their version could prevent a corrupt public official from receiving a government pension. Sen. Gayle Slossberg, a Democrat from Milford who worked on the bill, says she’s glad the GOP backs the concept and hopes it will pass soon.
