Reprieve at pump for Hartford holiday travelers

Greater Hartford travelers hitting the road for Thanksgiving got a significant break at the gasoline pump on Wednesday, as unleaded prices dropped more than six cents per gallon from the previous week.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Greater Hartford hit $3.592 on Wednesday, down from $3.651 a week ago, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

Prices have dropped slightly over the past few weeks, to the tune of one or two cents per week, according to AAA. The drop went a little steeper over the past seven days, as prices hit $3.600 per gallon of regular unleaded on Tuesday.

Gasoline prices dropped 10 cents in the past month.

Connecticut gasoline prices are much higher than surrounding states, mostly because the state requires a special fuel mix that is more environmentally friendly but costs more. Connecticut gas prices also are higher because of the state’s gasoline taxes and gross receipts taxes.
