Report: U. of New Haven, QU application growth among top in nation

An online business news site has ranked the University of New Haven and Quinnipiac University  among the 100 colleges in the nation with the fastest application growth.

University of New Haven  was 24th on the list recently compiled by 24/7 Wall St., while QU came in at 98th.

Applications to University of New Haven, a private university in West Haven, rose 251 percent over the last decade, according to the website.

University of New Haven Vice President of Enrollment Walter Caffey attributed the surge in part to growth and expansion under current President Steven H. Kaplan. Applicants are also attracted to the school’s “unique blend of the personal and the pragmatic” and opportunities for cross-disciplinary programs, he said in an email.

In the 2015-2016 school year, 10,720 students applied to the University of New Haven, which enrolls 7,774 undergraduates, according to the report.

QU in Hamden saw its applications spike 128 percent since 2006-07, according to the report . The university had 68,553 applicants in 2015-16, with a total enrollment of 37,381 undergraduates, the report said.
