A recent white paper from clean-energy research provider EQ Research recommends that state regulators and utilities work together on ways to lower power consumption at marijuana growing facilities.
While Connecticut’s medical marijuana market is relatively small, with 13,000 patients and four licensed growing facilities serving dispensaries, EQ said that growers in states that have legalized recreational use, like Colorado, may already comprise 1 percent of electricity demand.
Among EQ’s recommendations are that state and local laws incentivize growers to be more efficient and that various stakeholders increase sharing of information about energy use.
