Connecticut’s beer brewers may be a fraction of the industry here, but its influence is pushing the state’s total economic output above the $1 billion mark, according to a new report.
The Alexandria, Va.-based National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) and the Washington, D.C.-based Beer Institute said in a new report that Connecticut beer industry contributes just over $1.01 billion to the state economy.
Of that total, the brewing industry in Connecticut represents more than $144.3 million in economic output, while wholesaling represents $220.1 million and retailing totals more than $645.8 million.
The entire industry accounts for 11,482 jobs — 255 in the brewing industry, 972 in the wholesaling segment and 10,255 in retail.
In mid-August, another trade group, the Brewers Association, highlighted growth in Connecticut’s craft brewery industry. Craft breweries numbered 16 in 2011 and 49 in 2016, the association said, although it put brewers’ economic impact much higher than the NBWA report — at $569 million in 2014.
