Renters’ rebate program technical glitch fixed in the House

The state House of Representatives today is expected to approve a technical fix to a program that provides rebates to older and disabled renters.

The Senate on Tuesday adjusted the language for the Connecticut Renters’ Rebate Program in the biennial bipartisan budget to specify how funds to residents are distributed. The funding will go through the state Office of Policy and Management, said Adam Joseph, a spokesman for Senate President Martin M. Looney (D-New Haven).

Previously approved rebates could not be sent out without the clarifying language.

The program provides rebates to older adults or totally disabled renters whose incomes do not exceed certain limits. The biennial state budget passed last month set aside $12.7 million in 2018 and $13.6 million in 2019 for the program, according to Looney’s office.
