Renovation planned for 50-unit Torrington hotel following $3.8M sale

The new management of a Days Inn hotel in Torrington is promising a large-scale renovation project following a recent $3.8 million sale of the property.

“This is a big project, it’s not just buying the hotel and running it,” said Vaisakh Satheesh, the new general manager of the 50-unit Days Inn at 492 East Main St. “We are planning to redo entire rooms with new painting and new furniture. This is a 37-year-old property and they haven’t undergone any major renovations yet. The rooms need work to make the customers more comfortable.”

The two-story, 11,885-square foot hotel sits on a nine-tenths-of-an-acre lot located just off Route 8. It was sold to Shrija LLC in a deed recorded by the city on Nov. 7. The new owner’s principal is Kinjal Shah, of Oceanside, New York.

The seller, JJMN Group LLC,  acquired the property for $2.4 million in 2007. The seller’s principal is Jagdish Patel, of East Haven.

Satheesh said the new owner was attracted to the hotel because it enjoys steady revenue from construction workers assigned to area projects. It is one of only two budget options available locally, he said.

Still, the new owner plans to invest in making a more comfortable stay for those workers, and hopes to draw more family visitors.

“We are going to bring up the standards,” Satheesh said. “We are charging someone $100 to tay for the night, we need to make sure they are getting the absolute best.”
