RE/MAX, Stop & Shop try one-stop shopping

Hey, how about a house to go with that loaf of bread?

RE/MAX of New England and supermarket chain Stop & Shop today announced plans to put micro-size real estate offices in supermarkets in Connecticut and three other New England states.

This year, the Stop & Shop at 79 Washington Ave. in North Haven and 16 others will add real estate brokerage services to their retail-product offerings.

Both operators claim their five-year agreement is the first time that a major real estate brand and a large consumer retailer have teamed up to market their wares under one roof.

Quincy, Mass.-based Stop & Shop will have RE/MAX outlets in its supermarkets in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

Financial terms of the deal were not revealed.

“We are thrilled to partner with Stop & Shop, the leader in the supermarket segment,” “RE/MAX is one of the most recognized real estate brands around the world and we continue to seek opportunities that allow consumers to shop their way.

“Consumers are looking for a one stop shopping experience,” said Jay Hummer, executive vice President of RE/MAX of New England.  We believe this addresses this need and provides them with expert, full-time, proven real estate professionals.

It also presents local RE/MAX franchisees, Hummer said, with an opportunity to run a smaller, more economical office in an area with lots of customer traffic.
