Kurt Potter, broker/owner of RE/MAX Edge in Glastonbury, Middletown, and South Windsor, and RE/MAX East of the River in Manchester and Mansfield, was recently recognized by the Tri-County Board of REALTORS as the 2013 Local Realtor of the Year for his community involvement and professional aptitude.
Potter has worked in the real estate industry for nearly 20 years and just completed a one-year term as a Tri-County board of director.
KBE wins Gold Award for building construction
KBE Building Corp. was recently recognized with the 2013 Gold Award for Building Construction by the Design Build Institute of America, New England Region, for its design-build work on the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Middletown.
The extensive military campus project was KBE’s first design-build project for the U.S Army Corps of Engineers. KBE successfully met the 16-month completion schedule, earned the USACE equivalent of LEED Gold, and developed an environmental plan to protect an endangered species of turtle found on the building site.

U.S. News — Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” in 2014 has named Jackson Lewis LLP a tier 1 firm in Hartford in two practice areas: employment law — management and litigation — labor and employment.
The “Best Law Firms” rankings are based on the opinions of general counsel at major U.S. corporations as well as legal practitioners.
UConn named a best-value public college
UConn was ranked No. 25 on the Kiplinger’s Personal Finance list of 100 best values in public colleges for 2013-2014. Two years ago, UConn was ranked No. 30 on the annual list, and was No. 32 the year before that.
Schools are ranked based on measures of quality (admission rate, test scores of incoming freshmen, and four- and six-year graduation rates) and affordability (tuition, fees, and room and board, as well as financial aid for in-state and out-of-state students).
LUPA honors CT Supreme Court Justice
Latinos United for Professional Advancement honored Connecticut Supreme Court Justice Carmen E. Espinosa with the group’s highest honor, Lupian of the Year. Justice Espinosa was recognized at LUPA’s annual gala, “Here’s to You!” on Jan. 23 at The Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport.
In related news, LUPA also unveiled its Top 50 Most Influential Latinos in CT for 2013.
