With the average price for a gallon of gas in Connecticut climbing to $3.95, Gov. M. Jodi Rell urged the U.S. House of Representatives to pass a measure that would suspend oil deliveries to the country’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve until crude prices fall below $75 a barrel.Â
The proposal to halt shipments to the emergency oil reserve cleared the Senate in a 97 to 1 vote and is expected to receive bipartisan support in the House.
“We need to reduce the pressure that families in Connecticut and across the nation are facing from endless increases in energy prices,” Governor Rell said. “This is an opportunity for Congress to take some strong, definitive action to put more oil supplies in the market and help lower energy prices. I commend the Senate’s action and I urge the House to act as soon as possible.”
