Gov. M. Jodi Rell signed a criminal justice bill today that provides $10 million for prosecutors, public defenders, GPS tracking systems, alternative housing and mental health services.
Under the new legislation, sentences for persistent dangerous felons would double and triple. A persistent dangerous offender would receive a sentence of at least twice the minimum authorized on their second conviction. A third conviction sentence would be at least three times the minimum authorized.
“By enacting tougher penalties for so-called career criminals and by giving our criminal justice personnel the tools they need to do their jobs, we can take a big step forward in keeping dangerous felons off the streets,” Governor Rell said.
