Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell on Tuesday made a big show of Nissan’s announcement last week that the electric car Nissan Leaf will be introduced in the state next year.
“The inclusion of Connecticut in the launch of the Nissan LEAF recognizes our commitment to clean energy and the culmination of our work to prepare the state for the next generation of electric vehicles,” Rell said in a statement Tuesday.
The Leaf, which goes 100 miles on a single charge of its lithium ion battery, is the second electric vehicle to begin its initial rollout in Connecticut. Chevy announced in June its Volt would come to Connecticut in early 2011.
The electric vehicle announcements are victories for Rell and her Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Council, which has prepared the state for the innovative cars by setting up charging stations and other support structures throughout the state.
