Rell, Navy to sign deal to improve Groton sub base

Connecticut is set to provide more than $3 million to fund construction of new training facilities at the U.S. Naval Submarine Base in Groton, The Associated Press reports.

Outgoing Gov. M. Jodi Rell is set to join Navy officials aboard the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine Thursday to sign a deal providing Connecticut’s second investment in the base.

Connecticut is investing $3.22 million to help construct a high-tech submarine bridge simulator that will train officers and crews in submarine navigation.

Some of the money will also pay for a culinary training center that includes a fully functional replica of a galley found on Virginia-class submarines.
