Gov. M. Jodi Rell has announced that $75 million in state funding to pay for bridge and road upgrades is expected to gain approval when the state Bond Commission meets March 28.
Rell has placed $45 million on the Bond Commission’s agenda that will pay for nine bridge projects and design work for future-year projects. In addition, she has placed $30 million on the Bond Commission’s agenda to pay for five major road projects.
Four projects are slated for the Greater Hartford region including $12.4 million for the replacement of the existing bridge that carries Route 4 over the Farmington River in Farmington; $7 million for the complete replacement of the bridge the carries the exit ramp from Routes 5 and15 to Brainard Road in Hartford; $1.3 million for improvements to Route 66 in ÂÂÂPortland; and more than $8.1 million to improve drainage on Route 6 in Bristol.
“By releasing the bond funds at this time, we are continuing our unprecedented investments in the safety and integrity of Connecticut’s transportation system and we are providing immediate benefits to our economy,” Rell said. “These projects are shovel-ready, the design work is complete and these jobs are ready to go.”
