Regulators streamline co-generation permitting

The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection has developed a new streamlined permitted process for combined heat-and-power generating systems of less than 10 megawatts.

The new regulatory process is designed to make installation of the system quicker. They are more energy efficient than typical generators because they capture was repurpose the waste heat generated in the electricity process.

The CHP systems, also known as co-generation, are helpful for businesses to reduce energy costs while producing onsite power. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy advocates for them in his comprehensive energy strategy.

The state’s Clean Energy Finance & Investment Authority is offering a financing program for co-generation systems of less than 5 megawatts.
