Region’s largest softball facility debuts Saturday in Windsor

The Northeast’s largest fastpitch softball facility is set to open Saturday in Windsor.

The $3 million Fastpitch Nation Park, at 1001 Day Hill Road, has 11 outdoor fields with red Alabama shale infields and a 3,200-square-foot building for retail, storage, restrooms , LED scoreboards, covered dugouts and other amenities.

Play kicks off at the 22-acre site on Saturday at 8 a.m.

The venue, developed by David Rocha, is projected to generate approximately $8 million from spending by those competing or attending events there during its first year in operation, according to the Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau (CTCSB).

That will produce more than $500,000 in tax revenue for the state and support 3,300 jobs in the hospitality industry, CTCSB said.

A majority of the fields will be used for youth girls’ softball tournaments and leagues. Baseball events for boys age 12 and under are also planned at the site, officials said.

The Hartford Business Journal first reported Rocha’s plans for the Windsor park in July, 2018.

“Youth girls’ fastpitch softball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country and has far outgrown the number of Connecticut fields available for tournaments,” said Rocha, who also owns an indoor fastpitch training facility in Bloomfield.

Rocha leased the Day Hill Road land, which is owned by Mark Greenberg. The other end of the site contains office and retail space.
