Regional Italian food debuts on College Street’s restaurant row

Regional Italian food has arrived on College Street with the opening of Villa Lulu, a new restaurant by the group that runs Pacifico and Tarry Lodge.

The eatery opened earlier this month and features Italian specialties, a curated wine list and upscale cocktails. Sample dishes include ricotta pistachio pesto, Italian salumi and sun-dried tomato arancini with spicy Calabria aioli.

The restaurant opened next-door to Pacifico as part of The Shops at Yale, the university’s retail portfolio in downtown New Haven.

Moe Gad and Chef Rafael Palomino are behind the restaurant, at 230 College St. Executive Chef Denis Marukovich leads the kitchen.

“Traditional and new school Italian desserts are made in-house and feature seasonal ingredients and flavor profiles,” the owners said in a statement.
