There were more new housing permits issued in Connecticut in July than in any month during the last 17 years, according to data released by the state Department of Economic and Community Development.
Towns and cities across the state authorized 743 new housing units, bringing the year-to-date total to 3,037 units.
That number marks a 209% increase from July 2021’s total of 240.
The majority of permits – 541 – were issued for buildings with five or more units.

Bridgeport authorized the most units at 423, followed by New Haven (58), Milford (15), Ellington (12) and Greenwich (12).
