Quinnipiac University debuts upgraded esports venue

A 3D ceiling, wall graphics and dimmable LED lighting are among the features of a newly-redesigned esports venue at Hamden’s Quinnipiac University.

New Haven architectural firm Svigals + Partners took on the redesign of the venue, located on the university’s York Hill campus on the second level of the Rocky Top Student Center. The firm also recently designed a dedicated esports classroom at the University of New Haven.

Svigals + Partners Associate Katelyn Chapin said, “We designed the room as a contemporary, fun and interactive place for team and individual esports and gaming.”

The new esports room is divided into two zones, one with 24 gaming stations laid out to allow for five-person team gaming. The second zone accommodates a four-person gaming console and monitor for club members.

Flexible design elements will allow the room to be adapted as the esports team expands and to support academic functions, Svigals + Partners said in a statement.

Quinnipiac cut the ribbon on its esports venue in November 2021, and the university’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team credited the facility with its win at the 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship in March.

Many New Haven-are colleges and universities have built gaming centers in recent years to attract esports gamers and expanded academic programs relating to the growing field.
