Quinnipiac to launch engineering school

After a $9 million investment, Quinnipiac University will launch its new school of engineering this fall. It will be the Hamden university’s ninth school.

Justin W. Kile has been appointed founding dean of the new School of Engineering. It will offer programs in civil, industrial, mechanical and software engineering leading to bachelor of science degrees. In addition, it will offer a bachelor’s degree program in computer science.

For the last four years, engineering courses have been offered by Quinnipiac’s School of Business and Engineering. During that time, the university has invested $9 million to construct engineering laboratories. Kile, who has served as associate dean of engineering since 2013, has led the program.

The School of Engineering, which is located in the Center for Communications and Engineering on Quinnipiac’s Mount Carmel Campus, has 17 faculty members, and approximately 190 students. The first 19 students to complete the engineering program will graduate in May.

Kile will lead the School of Engineering as it seeks ABET accreditation, a yearlong process that leads to certification that the school’s programs meet the quality standards that produce graduates prepared to enter the global workforce.

Kile comes to Quinnipiac from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he was coordinator of the industrial engineering program. He earned a doctorate and a master’s degree in industrial and operational engineering from the University of Michigan.
