Quinnipiac raids UConn for more deans

Quinnipiac University has poached two more deans from the University of Connecticut’s medical school to jump start its own $75 million medical school in two years — its second raid on UConn talent in five months.

This time, the Hamden school added Dr. Anthony Ardolino, of West Hartford, who will take over as the school’s senior associate dean for academic and student affairs, and David C. Gillon, of Glastonbury, who comes on board as senior associate dean for administration and finance.

The hires follow its September appointment of Bruce Koeppen-the former dean of academic affairs and education at UConn’s med school-who was named the founding dean of the Quinnipiac University School of Medicine.

Quinnipiac’s med school is to debut in fall 2013.

In his new role, Ardolino will be responsible for developing Quinnipiac’s four-year medical curriculum, which must be in place before the school can apply for accreditation.

He also will be involved in hiring faculty, particularly the assistant deans for admissions and student affairs, and delineating the admissions criteria for medical school students.

At UConn, Ardolino was the associate dean for medical student affairs.

Gillon, who spent 32 years at UConn medical school, including as associate dean for finance and administration, will be the principal liaison between Quinnipiac’s medical school and the related administrative, personnel and financial offices and staff within the university.
