Quinnipiac University saw a dip in applications for the 2020-21 academic year, but enrollment remained steady.
For 2020-21, the Hamden-based university received 19,787 first-year applications, compared to 22,640 for the prior academic year. For each year dating back to 2016-17, Quinnipiac consistently had received over 22,000 applications, according to data filed this month with Electronic Municipal Market Access, or EMMA.
Meanwhile, the acceptance rate for students grew for the 2020-21 academic year, the data shows.
In 2020-21, the university accepted 82% of first-year applicants into its regular program. In contrast, the percentage rate for acceptance was 70% in 2019-20; 72% in 2018-19; 74% in 2017-18; and 76% in 2016-17.
While applications were down, and the acceptance rate climbed, the ultimate class size remained steady.
Final new student enrollment for 2020-21, including transfer students, was at 1,955. New student enrollment was at 1,725 in 2019-20; and at 2,093 in 2018-19.
“Applications from qualified applicants increased in 2020, resulting in a larger new first-time class with higher average (grade point average) profiles than the prior year,” said John W. Morgan, associate vice president for public relations.
