Quinnipiac University’s new medical school and Middletown’s Middlesex Hospital have established a five-year clinical partnership to provide both better patient care and hands-on training for med students, authorities say.
The Hamden university’s nursing school also is expanding its relationship with the hospital. Six nursing students began working at the hospital on a dedicated floor this summer.
After that, approximately 32 students will work each semester at the hospital, the university said. The amount and level of student involvement with patients will increase with their skills beginning with learning effective communications and culminating with working collaboratively on patient care with staff nurses.
The Frank H. Netter M.D. School of Medicine is under construction on Quinnipiac’s North Haven campus, where the School of Nursing has been since last July. The med school’s classes are due to start in fall 2013.
