The Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge, which carries I-95 traffic over the Quinnipiac River in New Haven, will be open to southbound traffic on Sept. 28, officials announced.
That’s eight months ahead of schedule, according to an announcement from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s office.
The reconstruction of the span, also known as the Q-bridge, is the central piece of a nearly $2 billion harbor crossing improvement program.
The northbound lanes of the new bridge opened in 2012.
“This is one of the largest projects in Connecticut DOT history, and it’s been completed ahead of schedule and on budget,” Malloy said. “That’s a major success, and it means that starting next week, we will be delivering relief for tens of thousands of residents who commute through this busy area each and every day.”
