Pratt & Whitney Power Systems in East Hartford received its first order from the Australian renewable energy market with the purchase of a special low-heat electricity conversion system.
The Gympie Timber Company today purchased the PureCycle Organic Rankine Cycle unit, a type of power system that can produce electricity from heat sources cooler than the boiling point of water.
The PureCycle will enable the Australian company to generate 240 kilowatts of net power to heat its timber-drying kilns using excess sawmill residue.
“The addition of the PureCycle system to their operations will enable Gympie Timber to take what once was a waste product and extract useable energy from it,” said Chuck Levey, vice president of sales and marketing for Pratt & Whitney Power Systems, in a statement. “We are happy to see this type of cost savings and positive environmental impact being embraced Australia by using the ORC system.”
