Putnam restaurateur wants horse race betting

A Putnam restaurant owner is seeking state approval to allow customers and others to bet on horse races at his pub.

The owner of J.D. Cooper’s on Park Road plans to operate an off-track betting room seven days a week once he gets the OK from the state liquor agency.

David Landry has rewritten plans after the state Liquor Control Commission denied his initial application for a “sports facility permit.”

Landry is teaming up with New York-based Autotote Enterprises to set up and run the betting operation.
